TRANSFORMATIONAL TRIPSOverview:Transformation Through Travel
Partners in Service is a non-profit program that exists to provide transformational travel experiences. As a PS volunteer, you'll learn, work, and share with people in the developing world through meaningful service. Your service days will be spent with indigenous communities nestled in the majestic Western Highlands, your nights will find you hosted by local partners in comfortable lodgings, and your experience will be rounded out by day trips to some of the country's most fascinating sites.
In the upcoming year, Partners in Service looks forward to offering new travel destinations. Check back here for updates on new trips to places such as the beautiful Andes of Ecuador.
TransformationThe standard PS trip to Guatemala last 8 days, with small teams of between 10 and 20 people traveling together. When performing service such as stove building and tree planting, PS volunteers break up into more intimate groups to enable intensive experiences. While it is of course impossible to program miracles, the PS staff tries to create conditions most likely to lead to magical moments of transformation.
FlexibilityPartners in Service welcomes the opportunity to tailor each trip to the desires of your unique team, with activities and destinations that can focus on a wide range of interests. Some of the subjects teams have explored with PS through special speakers, events, and destinations include the spiritual aspects of service, the issues and realities of globalization, the history and current politics of Guatemala, and the cultural ancestry of the Mayan people.
AccommodationPartners in Service offers two types of trip accommodations. Our standard mission trips see to it that PS volunteers enjoy a comfortable stay in cozy, locally run lodgings. Our pioneer mission trips offer more opportunities for cross-cultural encounters, with PS volunteers snuggling up into sleeping bags in the homes of host families at the end of the day. Pioneer trips are thus available for a discounted rate. Of course, whatever type of lodging your team chooses will be sure to suit all your needs within a safe, hospitable environment.
SatisfactionThe PS staff strives to meet your every goal and address your every concern, be they philosophical, pragmatic, physical, etc. Before your trip, we'll host at least one orientation meeting and provide you with a laundry list of diverse resources you can use to further prepare for your departure. During the trip, we'll take care of every need you have and try our best to satisfy your every desire. Afterwards, you'll have the opportunity to evaluate your experience and even, if you so choose, participate in our Post Script Project, which endeavors to document the transformational experiences of PS volunteers.
SafetyThe PS staff makes safety our top priority and has the skills, experience, and dedication to make your trip to Guatemala not only endlessly rewarding, but undoubtedly secure start to finish. We've coordinated an average of ten teams a year for the last ten years. Several groups have traveled to Guatemala with us every summer for the last six years, and 80% of PS participants have returned to Guatemala with PS within two years of their last trip.
